Western localizers have once again been caught doing questionable translations for anime as a certain familiar suspect has not only been inserting absurd Western phrases into their work, but has also been bragging about doing so, and serving as the epitome of what is wrong with translation in the West (to some).
A helpful Twitter user shared a screenshot of the localizer’s Twitter remarks describing their work for Inu ni Nattara Suki na Hito ni Hirowareta as their “finest work”:
Other deplorable statements from the individual:
Another user has suggested the localizer is taking large liberties with their translations, and cited various examples:
The localizer in question is the same individual that translated Satoko’s “nii-nii” nickname for her brother in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou to “big brudder” (later redacting the change), and was fine with an otoko no ko being made transgender in a Western translation while blocking those who disagreed with her.
This blasphemy to English translating has sadly existed for countless years, from Funimation’s political agenda pushing, insertion of absurd and irrelevant memes, overall inaccurate translations, and their equating of loli and pedophilia.
